Putrajaya, Malaysia, Aug. 3. (AP): The U.N. Security Council lacks the courage to condemn Israeli attacks on Lebanon, Malaysia's Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said Thursday, a day after the world body cancelled a meeting that could have sent peacekeepers to south Lebanon. The United Nations has not been able to do much except to try organizing the distribution of humanitarian aid,'' said Abdullah at the opening of an emergency summit of the 56-nation Organzation of the Islamic Conference.

Malaysia chairs the world's largest Islamic grouping. The Southeast Asian nation hastily called a summit of Islamic leaders to discuss measures to end fighting in Lebanon and Palestine.

``No end seems in sight. The security council could not muster the moral courage to condemn Israel,'' he added, even for the attack on the Lebanese village of Qana over the weekend.

Fifty-six people died in the Sunday strike, mostly women and children.
