It has several days since the UN sponsored cease fire took affect, following 33 days of fierce and bloody war between Israel and Hizbullah of Lebanon. So, who won the war? Israel's main objectives were: wipe out Hizbullah, Kill the General Secretary of Hizbullah, Shaikh Hassan Nassrullah and to secure the release of two captured Israeli soldiers. None of these objectives was met. The only thing Israel was able to accomplish was to turn Beirut into Stalingrad during WWII and the south of Lebanon into Hiroshima.

Hezbollah was started in response to the Israeli invasion and occupation of southern Lebanon that lasted from 1982 until 2000. Most people believed Israel could not be beaten -- that it would just take what it wanted and we couldn't do anything to stop it. But Hezbollah continued its resistance until Israel left most of Lebanon. Of course, Israel didn't give back everything it stole. They kept the Shebaa Farms and even kept Lebanese prisoners inside Israel illegally.

With all of the world screaming for a ceasefire and the need for a workable peace plan, one thing is critical to the success of this: A security force with some teeth is needed to police southern Lebanon. Israel is not going to agree to a peace deal until it believes that there is a credible force there to replace the IDF. And the perfect country to take the lead is Germany.

Olmert announces he’s going to occupy part of Southern Lebanon until an international force can be deployed. Hours later, a UN Observation post is attacked at least 15 times by IDF artillery and planes. No way anyone can possibly make the mistake of thinking this was an accident, which will be the public excuse. Interesting, eh? So we have to compare this action to Olmert’s words to divine the real message.
