"There are lessons that must be learned," said Gul. "It's not possible to carry out unilateral steps through force. Now this is a new chance. I'm happy to visit Israel during this critical period. In the last month much tears and blood have been spilled. To our sorrow there was also mass destruction. We believe there is a new chance to prepare a stable peace the Security Council resolution is a good chance," Gul added. The Turkish foreign minister said that everything should be done to release the kidnapped IDF soldiers and that everyone should contribute what they can so that two sister states, Israel and Palestine, exist side by side. Everyone must do their part to make peace before there is more blood and sorrow, he added, saying that Turkey would continue to act for this goal. Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said she welcomed the Turkish foreign minister. "We are during a time of military struggle and after a Security Council resolution whose full and total application can bring a change of reality to Lebanon, in a way that will lift the threat to Israel. We are at the start of a process that represents the Israeli interest, and that of the world, as well as Turkey. The interests of Lebanon are also represented – Lebanon which wants to rule over itself," she said. She added that UN Resolution 1701 would be applied. "I hope to see determination in the application of the UN Resolution from all of its perspectives and understandings: Release of thekidnapped soldiers, deployment of Lebanese army alongside an effective multinational force, the full application of an embargo on the transfer of weapons to Hizbullah. The process will result eventually in a Lebanon that will be a sovereign state and a disbanded Hizbullah. The first signs in the process can be seen in the deployment of the Lebanese army south, and we certainly expect to see the process being applied on time," said Livni. Before his meeting with Livni, the Turkish minister toured the Temple Mount. During the tour, an Arab youth approached the area, and began calling out condemnations against Gul. Police in the area distanced the youth, and detained him for interrogation. Trackback(0)
