Difficult night of battles in eastern sector: An IDF soldier was killed overnight Saturday when an antitank missile was fired at his crew near the village of Nabi al-Awadi in the eastern sector of south Lebanon. During the army operations against Hizbullah in the village, gunmen fired a Sager antitank missile at troops, hitting the armored vehicle in which the soldier was riding. He was critically wounded and died of his injuries while he was being evacuated. Another antitank missile fired towards troops caused no injuries or damage. Since the outbreak of the fighting in Lebanon 44 Israeli soldiers have been killed. Overnight Friday, an IDF officer and two soldiers from the Golani Brigade were killed in battles against Hizbullah operatives in Markhaba when an antitank missile was fired at them. Another officer was severely wounded and a soldier was lightly wounded. At least seven Hizbullah operatives were killed in the operation. In addition to the ongoing ground incursion into south Lebanon, the IAF struck over 70 Hizbullah targets across Lebanon overnight Saturday. Israeli warplanes hit two rocket launchers and a number of targets in the southern Beirut Shiite neighborhood of Dahiya. The army said it took out Hizbullah headquarters, offices, a weapons warehouse, among other sites. Trackback(0)
