I read this book in a day, and I never do that!

I followed this case a little, but had no idea so much other stuff went on...who knew there was a serial killer in New Hampshire in the 60's? I thought this was just about high school kids who killed a man and almost got away with it. It's interesting, the "review" from the woman who clearly knows the man who did it pretty much puts a big old exclamation point on the story, which is about how people around the killer convinced themselves that it was OK not to tell what they knew, and believed much of the paranoid propaganda spread by the killer's family. If you are from a small town, or know anyone who is, you will really relate to the description of these people, who believe whatever they are told, even if they have proof that the truth is something else. The authors even point that out at the end.

In any case, a very interesting story. The killer isn't quite a bad guy, but the victim probably was. In between, the characters of lots of other people are questioned, and their actions examined from all different angles.

I really didn't know what to think at the end, except that I really enjoyed the book. It was clearly well researched and seemed pretty objective. The characters came to life and I really felt like I was watching a movie at times.

STRONGLY recommend!
